Lake Garda - Tignale

High above Lake Garda with spectacular views onto the lake and Monte Baldo opposite, Park Hotel Zanzanu is south facing giving you sunshine from early morning until late afternoon so there is plenty of time to get that sun tan lying round the pool! The hotel is great for families with plenty of space for children to run around, an indoor pool useful for early and late season, jacuzzi, sauna and gym and outdoor pool including incorporated children's pool, tennis courts, table tennis and play area for small children. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast and 3 course evening meal plus salad bar and at lunchtimes snacks and light meals are available near the pool area. All rooms are en suite and have balcony with side facing or front facing view onto the lake. ALL hotel rooms now have air conditioning. Advise early booking for family rooms!

For several years Park Hotel ZanZanu has also offered apartments, originally for 4 or 6 persons within the hotel grounds by the tennis courts. These can be booked either on a self catering basis or half board taking meals in the hotel. Use of hotel facilities included in the price.

In 2018 they increased the offer adding BORGO BEATRICE - 10 apartments all with air con, 2 bedrooms, living/kitchen area, bathroom, balcony and lake view within the hotel grounds just metres from the main hotel. These apartments are either ground floor - Borgo Giardino with patio and garden- - or first floor - Borgo Terrazzo with large terrace - and again can be booked either on a self catering basis or half board taking meals in the hotel.

If you enjoy wonderful views of lakes and mountains and don't like too much heat Tignale is the place to be! Half way up on the west side, rather than on the lake shore the village is at 450 mts above sea level giving you not only a wonderful view to the southern end of the lake but on a clear day you can see the Appenine mountains aswell!
Tignale is fast becoming a coeliac haven! Made up of several hamlets, the central 'village' is just 1km from Park Hotel Zanzanu and offers plenty of bars, shops and characteristic restaurants all serving gluten free options; Al Torchio restaurant and pizzeria, serving gluten free real Italian pizzas and beer - great for lunchtimes, in the main square is Apollo restaurant, nearby is the Portichetto bar where you will find a good selection of gf ice creams and for a special night out La Miniera restaurant is able to cater for both coeliacs and those who are lactose intollerant.
Throughout the summer for the more energetic there are guided walks through the hills and woods in the 'High Garda Park' or to one of the other villages that make up the community of Tignale, a chance to learn and enjoy Nordic Walking or hire a mountain bike and enjoy riding along the many trails. In the hamlet of Prabione is the 'Flying Frogs' Adventure Park which has proved to be a real favourite with children and adults alike! In the evenings local dances, discos and events are often organised in the village square and most weeks throughout the summer ZanZanu also has an evening with live music.
But don't think you are isolated from the lake just 6km away! For those who enjoy swimming in the lake, from early June to the end of September there is a shuttle bus that goes four times a day (more frequent still in July and August) to the Porto di Tignale beach area with snack bar and availability of sun umbrellas and loungers.
There are also several excursions departing from Tignale making it easier to access the lake for anyone who wants to stay in the village but doesn't want to hire a car. A weekly bus trip from Tignale to Limone allowing time to take a boat to Malcesine and the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo, a half day bus/boat trip to Isola del Garda, coach excursions to Venice and Verona, and a full day lake tour by boat with transport to and from Limone from where the boat departs. You can also use the daily minibus, early enough to get you to the nearest lakeside village in time to take the public boat service from one lake side village to another and return to Tignale late afternoon on the service bus. Be sure to visit Limone, Malcesine, Riva, Garda and Sirmione, the most popular places, but save time to take the ferry to Torri del Benaco for the Monday market or Salò with its elegant shops and lake side walk.

How to arrive

Airports: Verona 82km; Milan/Bergamo 125kms. (Low cost flights with Easyjet, British Airways, Jet2, and Ryanair from various regional airports to Verona or Bergamo).
From Verona turn left out of the airport, follow the road round the perimeter and follow green signs to the motorway. Take A4 motorway towards Milan and exit at Desenzano and go towards the centre. Take road to Salò (keeping lake on right hand side).

From Bergamo A4 towards Venice and exit at Brescia Est. Take road to Salò. Pass Salò, going north towards Riva. Turn left up the hill to Tignale after the two tunnels. Hotel on right hand side after approx 6kms. Car hire is recommended to enjoy the resort and surrounding area in full. However if you don't want to drive taxi transfers can be organised from Bergamo and Verona airports and Desenzano station

Prices shown are per person per day HALF BOARD sharing a twin/double room en suite plus air con, with balcony and lake view. The majority of the rooms are side facing with a view right down the lake but there are also some front facing rooms and Junior Suites. Coeliacs are very welcome and a good variety of gluten free meals are available.
