Fantastic value and great for families. Ski-ing recommended for beginners up to intermediate level. Plenty of summer activities too.
Hotel Montana is situated in the village of Vason at 1650 mts and just a few steps away from the ski slopes (mountain meadows in the summer), lifts and ski school of Monte Bondone. In recent years, the hotel, which has been run for over 40 years by the Barbieri family, underwent a big refurbishment programme and now has a completely new look plus increased capacity. Apart from the normal classic rooms and some apartments, the hotel now boasts 17 family suites on the top floor all with magnificent views towards the ski area or the valley and the Brenta Dolomite peaks. The indoor pool, with a separate children's pool, is open every day both winter and summer and is complete with water jets, bubbles and a jacuzzi and directly outside is a terrace, a real sun trap in the summer! The 'Wellness' centre is certainly worth a visit, whether it is just to spend an hour in one of the relax rooms on the loungers with breathtaking views of the Brenta Dolomites or taking a sauna, Turkish bath or having one of the many beauty treatments or massages that are available. And if you really want to pamper yourselves book the private Spa Suite for a couple of hours - imagine sitting in your private jacuzzi with mountains all around you! Hotel Montana is featured in the Italian Coeliac Society web site and will look after you all very well.

Thank you for organising our trip to Italy. The transport all worked as planned, Hotel Montana and its staff were great, the food was excellent, the weather fantastic and Monte Bondone was beautiful. We were impressed by the way that the Italians generally seem more aware of coeliac disease and its implications - it makes Italy an excellent potential destination for coeliacs. We had a really lovely time at Hotel Montana - the provision of gluten free food was excellent and they totally understand about contamination. The hotel was spotless, the room comfortable and the swimming pool lovely but what really made the holiday was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. The ski area is small, but absolutely perfect for beginners/children and our 5 and 8 year old daughters came on leaps and bounds and loved every minute. I cannot stress enough what a difference it made to my daughter and me knowing that the food was safe and that there was lots of choice. I have also not really visited Italy before, apart from work, and I was struck by the general atmosphere of friendliness, particulary towards the children, which we really appreciated Rob, Katharine & family February 2013

Hotel Montana is about the most 'children' friendly hotel I have ever come across. Whether it be winter or summer there are plenty of activities and a range of facilities for all the family. Mini club for children from 3 - 9 years, separate children's pool, games room with a 'junior' bar, pizza parties, tennis and in winter tobogganing and skating.
Winter ski: The ski area of Monte Bondone with hotels in the villages of Vaneze at 1300 mts and Vason at 1650 mts is just 15kms above the town of Trento. There are 20kms of ski runs with plenty of wide pistes for beginners but also a 4km run for those who want a challenge. Children who are ski-ing for the first time are particulary well looked after and will soon be away from the nursery slopes and taking one of the main runs. At Monte Bondone you will find everything at hand. No long walks to the ski lifts - the village of Vason is as near as you can get to being right on the ski slopes and you will even find 2 bars right on the pistes! Just a couple of kilometres from Vason is the area known as Viote, a paradise for cross country skiers.
Summer in the mountains: In the summer the ski slopes become high mountain meadows and activities organised by the hotel include nordic walking, rock climbing, mountain bike excursions, visits to alpine farms , the valley of the lakes, the castles of Drena and Trento, an alpine Botanical garden, and of course picnics and barbeques.
If you want an afternoon away from Monte Bondone a trip to Trento town is well worth while whether it be for some good shopping or just to explore the old town with its narrow streets and castle. It is also just 1 hour by car to the northern end of Lake Garda and the towns of Riva del Garda and Torbole.

How to arrive
Airport: Milano Bergamo 190 kms. Verona 95 kms
From Milano Bergamo airport turn right out of car hire depot and follow green signs to motorway A4 direction Venice. Just before Verona filter onto A22 Brenner motorway north to Trento/Bolzano. (If arrivng at Verona airport follow green signs onto the motorway A22.) Exit at TRENTO SUD and take the road north and after a few kilometres exit the dual carriageway and take the road up the hill passing over the motorway and following directions for Riva del Garda. After approx 1km pass first sign to Monte Bondone on left hand side and keep on main road. Further 2kms and once through long tunnel turn right to Monte Bondone - Sopramonte. Stay on this road through Sopramonte for approx 15 kms passing Candriai, Vaneze, Norge and to Vason. Hotel Montana on right hand side as you arrive at Vason.
In winter there is a ski bus - Ski fly shuttle - on Saturdays and Sundays from Milano Bergamo airport passing Verona and on to Monte Bondone.
In the summer for those arriving at Verona airport and not wanting to hire a car best to take the train from Verona to Trento and then taxi or hotel minibus can be requested. Reduced rate transfers from Bergamo available as 'sponsored' by the hotel.
