Sorrento
Hotel Centrale, family run and recently modernised, is an attractive 4 star hotel, a few minutes walk from the lively Piazza Lauro and just a little further to the central Piazza Tasso. The hotel has good on site facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, and a large 'fitness centre' with well equipped gym, turkish bath and for those who want to be pampered the possibility of massage and beauty treatments. One of the best features is the roof top terrace where you can sit and relax with an aperitif enjoying the view onto the Bay of Naples and towards Vesuvius before walking into Sorrento centre for dinner. All the rooms are en suite and air conditioned and many have a balcony. The holiday offer is B&B only but at lunchtimes snacks or a light lunch are available in the hotel whereas you will find plenty of restaurants in Sorrento, many of them serving gluten free dishes.
We stayed at Hotel Centrale where all of the staff were very helpful at all times, especially the attention given to my wife for her gf food. She felt very safe in their hands which makes for a relaxed holiday." Lance & Christine June 2009
Sorrento is probably one of Italy's most visited towns and an all year destination. Enjoy a fantastic few days exploring Sorrento and the Amalfi coastline; lots of sunshine, stunning views of sparkling clear blue sea, steep cliffs, small romantic beaches, olive groves, lemon groves, painted houses that are built on the mountain sides that go right down to the sea and somehow they hang there and don’t fall off! The local bus service is very good and from Sorrento you can go most places in comfort and admire the views. To be recommended, apart from the ‘must do’ road past Positano to Amalfi itself and a boat trip to Capri, is the lesser known road along the Sorrento peninsular through Massa Lubrense to Nerano and down to Marina di Cantore. (local bus available). You will find yourselves in a tiny village right by the sea with fishing boats in the bay and about 4 restaurants along the pebble beach serving fresh grilled fish, colourful salads, lush fruit and of course plenty of chilled white wine! Sorrento itself is full of shops and boutiques selling leather goods, handbags, ceramics, worked coral, lace and embroidery as well as local produce such as limoncello, the traditional Sorrento sweet lemon flavoured grappa, mozzarella cheese and extra virgin olive oil. There are several restaurants in Sorrento serving gluten free food so eating out need never be a problem!
